There are some specific scenarios when you will not be able to use your card:
If a merchant is not able to check for our authorisation (confirming that you have enough available funds) before a transaction is completed, the transaction will be declined. The most common places where this occurs are on-board cruises, trains and some airline flights.

Many automated terminals are unable to check for approval before processing a transaction. These transactions would automatically be declined. An example of this type of terminal would be automated pay parking machines.
To prevent unauthorised use, your card will not work at self-service petrol pumps. You can still use your card to pay for petrol inside the petrol station at the cashier.
Your card cannot be used to withdraw cash over the counter, including in banks. Of course, you can use your card at the ATM by using your PIN to withdraw cash (within your daily cash withdrawal limit).
If you are a Basic account customer, your card cannot be used for purchases on the internet, over the telephone or by mail order. If you wish to make these types of transactions you can upgrade to an Enhanced account online.
