The Daily Star Cash Card Review – Prepaid MasterCard

What’s good?

The main benefit feature of the daily star cash card is choice. You can choose to pay a monthly fee of £3.99 which covers all your purchase transactions, or you can opt for the pay as you go option. Accepted in over 28 million outlets across the world, the card carries all the benefits of a credit card with no credit checks or interest payments. The chip and pin technology marks it out as a useful alternative to cash, and due to the fact that you can only spend what is loaded onto the card it appears ideal for somebody who is looking to stick to a budget.

What’s not so good?

The £6.50 card issue fee may be enough to put potential users off, there are a number of similar card on the market that do not carry an initial payment.

Fees?

The card fees are dependent on whether you take up the pay as you go or the monthly payment option. The card issue fee applies for both options, as does the international cash withdrawal fee of £1.99. However there is a 2% fee for all transactions with the PAYG option. There is also a minimal difference between the UK cash withdrawal fee, £1.50 for PAYG and 0.50p for the pay monthly option.

Self servicing?

You can top up your card via BACS, PayPoint and or through the Post Office, with the PayPoint option carrying a 3% value charge. You can also check your card balance online, over the phone and via SMS message.
