Sainsbury’s PAYG Credit Card

Find the best Foreign Currency Fees New consumer statistics shows that over £236.4 million pound in currency will be withdrawn over the half-term break, with many losing money with hefty fees.

Consumers that use the Sainsbury’s PAYG Credit Cards and credit cards has shown that over 380,000 UK citizens will withdraw over 2 million pounds worth in foreign exchange money next week, with many being charged debit and PAYG credit card cash withdrawal fees of up to three percent.

“One of the peak seasons is the spring half-term holiday where now UK citizens plan to go on holiday and many people will be relying on their prepaid cards, debit cards and credit cards to withdraw currency whilst they’re overseas holidays,” said Stuart McKeggie, Sainsbury’s PAYG Credit Cards head.

“We’re encouraging holidaymakers to think carefully about how they’ll access their money, and where possible, find a way that will prevent them from being charged additional fees.”

Research by Santander Cards recently revealed holidaymakers face paying premiums of up to 269 percent for a half term holiday this February.

The five most popular holiday destinations are Mallorca, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, Orlando and Chania in Crete.

Destinations in Florida and Crete are on average 53 percent more expensive between the 19th and 26th February, than two weeks later.

Those who are planning on going away over the February half term are urged to compare the market for the best foreign exchange rates to prevent the cost of their already expensive holiday rocketing.

A Sainsbury’s PAYG Credit Card is a good way to take your money abroad as it prevents the need to change traveller’s cheques, while retaining the safety of being able to cancel the card should you lose it.

The foreign exchange rates on Travel Money Cards are fixed at the figure you bought the money at when you loaded the Sainsbury’s PAYG Credit Card with funds, so you miss out on hefty credit and debit card fees abroad.

Sainsbury’s No ATM Fees Cards Causing Headaches for Brits Abroad

British holidaymakers spent over £391 million in ATM withdrawal fees while travelling abroad within the past year, according to new research carried out by Sainsbury’s.

The findings showed that an estimated £14.2 billion was withdrawn by British holidaymakers over the same 12 month period from cash machines outside of the UK.

The average charge for an No ATM withdrawal within the Eurozone was found to be approximately £1.67, with some cash points charging up to £2.66.

ATM charges overseas were less common but still expensive, with approximately 3.7 million people admitting to withdrawing a collective total of £2.6 billion on credit cards.

This works out to an approximate average of £726 per person.

While the majority of people would probably accept that charges such as these are inevitable when using credit or debit cards abroad, the actual figures involved are still quite shocking.

Another rather intriguing set of statistics revealed that men are approximately 50% more likely than women to use their credit cards to withdraw cash while overseas.

While fewer women will use overseas ATM machines to withdraw cash though, those that do are likely to withdraw considerably more than men, on average.

David Barrett, Head of Sainsbury’s Travel Money, said “As a nation, we spend a huge amount every year on our holidays.”

Travel money cards are a great solution for those who are worried about fees and charges while travelling abroad.

Regardless of whether you are staying in Europe or going overseas, you can preload money onto a travel money card before you leave.

This guarantees you won’t be subject to the same charges as someone who is withdrawing money using their debit/credit card while travelling.

If you are worried about getting charged by ATM fees while travelling abroad, a travel money card could help you. The card prevents overspending as there is no overdraft
