Orange Cash Card Review

What Prepaid? Summary -

Date Reviewed: August 2011

Which Prepaid Rating

What's Good

The Orange prepaid MasterCard is an intriguing and attractive addition to the prepaid card circuit, particularly for Orange Pay As You Go customers who earn rewards when they use the card to make purchases both online and on the high street. You do not need to have a bank account or even really be an Orange customer to apply for the card, which suggests Orange are looking to target the card at a broad but youthful market. It can obviously be used at the multitude of places worldwide where MasterCard is accepted and appeals as a viable alternative to carrying large amounts of cash when abroad.

What's not so good?

Despite it not being a pre-requisite for application, you really do need to be an Orange cash card customer to earn the PAYG rewards and therefore get the most out of the card. If you are attached to another network there might be more suitable options for you on the wider prepaid market .

Application Process
5 Stars

Very efficient application process, the best we have tested. Apply online and you will receive a confirmation letter the following day. This letter contains a barcode enabling you to make an initial top-up at the Post Office if you have not already paid for online. You then receive your prepaid MasterCard in around 3 days.

Card Design
2 Stars

The unmistakeable contrast of the Orange emblem on a black background is recognised globally as an important brand.

Fees
4 Stars

There is no monthly charge with the Orange cash card, which stands out as an immediately positive feature. There are some key charges to take note of though, particularly 2.95% for UK cash withdrawals with an additional 2.75% ADDED to that when taking out money overseas .

Self Servicing
3 Stars

Loading the orange prepaid MasterCard via bank transfer or in an Orange shop is free and should be relatively straightforward. You can also use the Post Office or an external credit card to load funds, but be aware that charges will apply
