Do Prepaid Cards work on Second Life (SL)

We receive many questions from customers asking if prepaid credit cards are accepted on gaming websites, such as second life.

So, you have registered an account with Second Life (www.secondlife.com), (runescape) and of course (World of Warcraft) but now need some Linden Dollars, to buy that new virtual house that you have had your eye on for some time. You could get a virtual job, but it would just take too long to earn the cash required.

You need to dip into your real life funds, and purchase some Linden Dollars for some real pound notes.

If you don’t have a credit card, or just don’t feel comfortable registering your credit card on the site, you can use a prepaid credit card to purchase Linden Dollars. In fact, you can use a prepaid credit card on most gaming sites in the real world too. Many customers prefer using a pre-paid card, as they have better control over the amount of money they spend, as you can only use money that you have loaded onto the card. If the card details are intercepted and fraud occurs, its also much easier to sort out! Almost all prepaid card issuers will provide you with the same fraud protection provided under a standard credit card or bank account agreement, so its highly unlikely you would ever loose your funds if fraud should take place.

SecondLife and some other gaming sites, do not accept Maestro prepaid cards, and only MasterCard or Visa is accepted. This does narrow down the number of prepay cards available from which you could choose, although there are more and more full branded prepaid MasterCard’s being launched in the UK, so there are still a wide number of products available.

So in summary, you can now take your real cash, load it onto a Prepaid MasterCard, and then buy virtual cash in second life.
