Death Of A Bank where Santander, the Spanish banking company is on the verge of administrative meltdown. The banking company received around 245,000 complaints- almost 1300 complaints every day. Customers have resorted to Financial Mail to complain about Santander’s terrible administrative policies.

The general complaints received are about the facts that customers are facing problems regarding setting up of new accounts, problems in operating new accounts with enduring powers of attorney. Customers are also displeased with the fact that terms and conditions are broken by the bank without any explanations and the staff in call centres and branches provide wrong information, that too on a regular basis. Customers are being made to wait for ages on phone lines which are premium rate lines. Moreover recently immigrated customers of Alliance and Leicester are also facing similar problems.

Financial Mail has had a talk with the customers whose accounts have been forcibly moved to Santander and assured them of proper steps being taken. Santander has been migrating around 5 million Alliance and Leicester customers over the last one year. But various problems have cropped up due to this whole business. Online savers have been unable to access their accounts and hence are not being able to access important details of their accounts as Santander has changed their account login details. The bank has also failed to compensate customers for its lack luster service, thus remaining unable to fulfil its promises. Since savings brands had been merged by the bank, savers saw that the protection offered them under the Financial Services Compensation Scheme fall from 100,000 pounds to just 50,000 pounds. When approached by customers, Santander employees could only say that they regretted the inconvenience caused to their customers and would send the compensation as soon as possible.

Santander boss Steve Williams has responded by saying that due to their merging with Alliance and Leicester the ”fast growing” bank has regrettably caused inconvenience to some customers. He announced certain new incentives of the bank such as customers having access to more than 1300 branches and fee free ATMs in Spain as well as best buy products.
